Ambassadorial-level Meeting of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter - Coordination Meeting for Common Road Map for the Geneva Chapter

The Geneva Chapter of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations held its second meeting, at the ambassadorial-level, with the purpose of advancing in the coordination of positions vis a vis issues of common interests and concern that are dealt with, among others, in various of the multilateral forums based in Geneva, including in the Human Rights Council, the World Health Organization, and the International Labour Organization, among others.
The Permanent Representatives of the Member States of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations initiated discussions on the drafting a road map to be implemented by the Geneva Chapter, once defined, reflecting concrete areas of action in which the grouping can advance the goals it has set forth to upon its establishment.
During the meeting, participants reaffirmed once again the relevance of the Geneva Chapter of the grouping, while stressing the need to support concrete actions to give it a voice and relevance at all relevant fora. They agreed, among others, on the importance of redoubling efforts against the politicization and weaponization of human rights against countries from the Global South, as well as against the promulgation and application of unilateral coercive measures, which remain the greatest obstacle on the development plans of targeted nations, while negatively impacting the full realization of the human rights of their peoples.
